Skills for Health: Compass Social Prescribing Service

Social prescribing is the term used when people self-refer or when health / social care professionals refer people to non-medical options to help improve their health & wellbeing.

About Compass Skills for Health

Compass Skills for Health is a type of social prescribing. It is inspired by Camphill Wellbeing Trust’s established AnthroHealth approach which recognises that living in tune with ourselves, others and nature helps make us healthier, happier and more resilient.

Skills for Health aims to support you develop practical skills that can help you bring about the health-promoting changes that you want in your life. Skills for Health encourages you to:
✓  take more control over your health
✓  learn new ways to improve your overall wellbeing

It can be particularly beneficial to individuals who are:

✓  feeling anxious, stressed, or low in mood
✓  experiencing isolation or loneliness
✓  in need of a place to unwind and relax
✓  wanting to make a positive contribution in the community

Who is it for?

Compass Skills for Health is for you if you are:

  • aged 16 or over
  • under 16 and accompanied by a responsible adult
  • looking for non-medical options to support you in making changes to improve your physical, mental and / or social health and wellbeing.

Activities are generally outdoors so will vary according to the weather and the season. We also have some indoor activities. 

You might get involved with:

Gardening

Gardening activities such as planting, watering, weeding and harvesting can help support you reduce overthinking and connect you to using your body. 

Woodland Care & Monitoring

You might help the project by counting trees, pruning and stacking logs, benefitting from the rhythmic nature of these tasks. 

Constructing

Your activities might involve the construction of raised beds, compost bins or green pathways in the outdoor areas helping you to become physically active and building your strength and resilience. 

Cooking for Health

Using our zero-waste kitchen in our North Point Building, participants get practical sessions using our organically-grown produce where possible to learn how to cook and eat healthily.

Painting

Help the team with therapeutic, creative tasks such as sheds, fencing, plant/tree markers and signage.

Equipment Maintenance

Help the team with the cleaning and storing of hand-held tools; a practical and satisfying way to contribute and see the impact of your work.

Refurbishment

Gain satisfaction from helping to strip out buildings prior to refurbishment and see the difference your work makes.
