Former Science, Arts & Crafts Block

Built around 1987, this two-storey building has a bright, south-facing aspect with exceptional light quality inside. We have begun to strip out this building in preparation for refurbishment in the coming year. We have had draft architect’s plans drawn up to provide accessible toilets and link this building with the former Kindergarten.

It contains a suite of medium-sized spaces with potential use for a range of activities such as studios for local artisans, re-use/ recycle/repair facilities, community art, craft or cookery classes.

The space will be refurbished to enable flexible use with a commercial-grade kitchen. We will add accessible toilets, improve access and energy efficiency.

Our plans for this building:

Lower floor:

Kitchen

The kitchen area will provide space for training, food processing and serving customers in the café located in the adjoining Kindergarten building.

Upper floor:

Extension to our Blue Door Charity Shop

We look forward to bringing you an extension of Blue Door charity shop able to accept larger items such as furniture.

Reuse, Repair & Upcycling Facilities

To encourage and demonstrate a circular economy, we plan to offer space for re-use, repair and upcycling workshops. The same space will also be used for art and craft workshops led by Compass staff and outside contributors.

Office Space

This building will also provide office space for Compass staff.
