Bee Keeping
Starting with one hive in 2020, Compass staff and volunteers now manage 12 hives across Compass and neighbouring Camphill sites.
Staff have attended recognised bee-keeping courses and passed the skills gained onto volunteers who want to learn about these amazing creatures and how to care for them in an environmentally-friendly manner.
At Compass, we do not remove all the honey from the bees and ensure that our honey processing is minimal to retain all the natural, beneficial elements of raw, unpasturised honey.
Compass honey can be ordered and bought from us through our Produce Pop-Ups each year.
Volunteers & Staff Complete Beekeeping Course:
Our gardener Petra and 3 of our regular volunters recently completed their Introduction to Bee Keeping course run by the Aberdeen and District Bee Keepers’ Association (ADBKA) and are ready to help us look after our bee colonies.
Food Hygiene training will also be provided to voluteers keen to get involved in honey processing.
